Customs Inspected My Bag and...
 

Coming back from Chicago I'm on the plane bored so I write down a few things I want to do when I get back home. Writing about my domains and different things.

Sure enough I only had a carry on so I'm the first one to customs and since the others were waiting for their luggage the customs guy searched my bag. No biggie but then he opens my notebook and actually starts reading through my pages. Fortuneately for me the whole time he's asking me what I was doing in Chicago and I said I went to meet a few friends who I do design work for and party it up a bit. So when he saw all the domain names he just looks at me, LOL, and I say yes I do design work for adult sites as well. No I have no laptop or materials with me, blah blah blah and he let me go after reading ALL of what I wrote. Concerns of CP is their only concern he said.

Should I be worried the next time I come back from the US? Will customs have me flagged? I don't think so...right?

I would ask him for a warrant on reading your private writings. That's total BS, I don't care if you had written down how to take over an airplane, he has no right to read what you wrote.

I think they're allowed to do pretty well anything they want to.

Even if they arent allowed, which I really dont think they are.. they got away with it!!!

My friends father works for Air Canada, Im going to ask him to find out what he thinks... keep in touch.

That sucks, but they probably do have the right to do it - customs is a very powerful agency.

My only concern is coming back from Miami with a laptop and materials and tshirts from the show I might be flagged to be stopped and checked. The guy said CP is there concern but if they do stop me I'll be put through the ringer I'm sure and might even loose my laptop for a while.

I will find out in July when I go the the US again before Miami so time will tell.

You could always put your laptop in a baggie and hide it up your ass :D

Mail your laptop home overnight - it will be there when you are.
When we had our band together, we would always send 1 briefcase full of band pics, recordings, demos, etc... ahead.

Back in the 80's, the x ray machines would render the demo tapes useless. But because the case was metal and couldn't be x rayed, they would simply open it up, look at the junk and pass it on. (we never locked the case - just taped the latches shut, so they could look at it)
The theory still works, it will simply be another laptop, even going through customs.

Oh, and 2 inch masking tape with "Aquatic Plants Research", or some other obscure written with a Sharpie wouldn't hurt.
Ours case had "Junk that can't be X Rayed" on it :)

I think about the last thing that I would want to do with my laptop is mail it anywhere.

But shipping the t-shirts and other porn convention junk does sound like a good idea.

I did put a user on my laptop that is non adult in case someone wants to look at my desktop, but as soon as they see that my laptop is a Mac they seem to stand back and just pass me through. :D

An anti-virus software company spent over two years trying to write a virus for Mac OS X. The best that they were able to come up with was a trojan program that Safari or IE, but not Opera or Mozilla would run through its help system. It could delete the contents of the user's home directory. Apple has already release a patch for this. There never was an actually anything released just the how to do it.

Opti only if my laptop could take me shopping would I consider marrying it.

I'll see if anything happens when I come back from the US in July, though I'll be driving then not flying.

This is an agency that has the right to shove fingers up your ass just to see if there's anything up there worth reading. It ain't BS. They do have to be polite and treat each individual with respect but searching things you're moving from one country to another - hell YES they have every right to search it in any way they choose.

Ramster, I used to travel internationally all the time and I've been pulled 3 times to be searched. I don't think they logged it, flagged it or it had any effect on my additional times through customs for any country. I wouldn't worry about it too much but I would shave and leave the turban at home.

Travelling tip. Never run through the airport screaming "For the love of Allah!" and you should be OK.

as the post above states, You Have No rights in customs ! They can do what ever they want. About a year ago I got picked for one of the many searches I have gone tru. They Have found a Fubar card, and the lady says whats this ? I said I go to parties and take pics and put them on this site. She says wellllllllll.......We'll just have to check this out. Comes back about 10 mins later with a guy behind her who is kind of snickering. She says You could have told me what was on the site. She is all red in the face, must of hit a page with some action on it. So I was free to go, as I am leaving I said , well ? did you like it ? She just turned away and the other guy was just about to burst into laughter. Similar thing happened going to Ninas Party In New York one time, they found a card when they Searched the car. I was wondering why all these guys were gathered around the computer looking intently back and forth between the screen and me. I only figured it out after what they were looking at when they gave me the card back. All I can say is |pissleft| on them

I think you are only flagged it you are asked to turn around (in my case US--> Canada)...I was not allowed in CA...so now I'm flagged......of course I drove back across bridge and right back and was allowed in...but now every time I go...I'm pulled aside. (note to self...clean carpet fresh power out of trunk...CA Customs will think it is Coke rubbed into the carpet stains).
