Congratulations to Greenguy and having a sense of humor

Some time back I blasted most adult webmaster resource sites with a press release for my site http://www.patentthea.com which pokes fun at the current trend towards "discovering" you own patents for internet technology and trying to charge for licenses.

Then I watched the "announcements" pages carefully, and not a single webmaster posted my press release. I came to the conclusion that most webmaster's did not realize it was a joke and thought I was genuinely trying to screw money out of people, so binned the press release. A friend of mine thinks that most people are not that stupid and that the reason is that most adult resource webmasters are being paid by Acacia to suppress anything that put them in a bad light. Whichever was true (or, more likely, if there is a third reason) my press release for http://www.patentthea.com never saw the light of day.

Or so I thought, but I was just going through my stats log and saw that a while back I got a few hits where the referring page was greenguysboard.com, at some point you guys must have actually published my press release. So congratulations guys on being the only resource webmasters with a sense of humor (or the only ones intelligent enough to realize that http://www.patentthea.com was a joke, or the only ones not in the pay of Acacia, or whatever).

Thanks.

RE : "So it w s joke then?" That depends, if you are going to believe me when I say "it is not a joke" and send me lots of money for a license, then no it is not a joke. |jester|

I just did a search & I don't see where we ever posted your press release - maybe someone posted the URL on the board awhile back?

ecchi 2004-05-26 09:15 AM

Oh and read "Definitions of A" on the "About The Patent" page, item one states:

1. The rights lie with us for all forms of the letter A, including, but not limited to, uppercase, lowercase, accented, Cyrillic, put in a little circle (e-mail users please note), in code, and in any form we may not have thought of already.

I think you will find that leaving a blank instead of an A comes under "any form we may not have thought of already", so you still need a license for your last post.

ecchi 2004-05-26 09:20 AM

RE "I just did a search & I don't see where we ever posted your press release - maybe someone posted the URL on the board awhile back?" So you are saying that you do not have a sense of humor ? |jester|

Seriously though, I am curious, If you did not post the press release, did someone post the URL http://www.patentthea.com here, and if so when, and what did you say about the site ?

Greenguy 2004-05-26 09:42 AM

I did a search on the board for the domain, but found nothing.

I also did a search on my hard drive (as I do all the press releases) & found nothing :(

dubb 2004-05-26 10:04 AM

This has nothing to do with the post and excuse me if im butting in but why do you keep posting your link over again? Would you like us to read it again is that the purpose? Just a question. Also by posting this here are you hoping that it will get picked up this time since no responded before. Once again excuse me if im off just was wondering.

ecchi 2004-05-26 06:18 PM

Greenguy - Are you sure you never received the original "press release" as I used one of those broadcasters on another WM site that lists you as one of the sites that it gets distributed to. If they did not send it out it would explain why no one posted it, and I will bring up the matter with them, but I want to be certain that they did not send it out before I say anything.

Dubb - No it is because I have to refer to it as something, and when I wrote the post I originally put the name of the site (PatentTheA) but that looked a bit spammy, so I changed it so as not to upset anyone, but that seems impossible with some people. As to trying to get people to look at the site again, No I definitely do not want that, it is a humor site with no adverts on it, and I am paying the bandwidth bill (there is a link that leads surfers to one of my free adult sites, but there is no point in sending webmasters there, at best they will just burn bandwidth and at worst they will pinch my ideas, there is also a link to my WM site, but that is in my sig, if I want you there (and I do) I want you to go via my sig not via this site, less bandwidth for the same result). Oh yes my ego does want people to look at it once (I created it to be seen), but only once, and when I originally posted I thought there was already a link to there from here, so anyone who was going to visit it would have done. All re-advertising it would achieve would be re-visits, a waste of bandwidth, and of my money, and I have better things to do with my money (like beer). Although now I know it was not posted I've got to start re-advertising, so anyone want to look at it feel free to do what Dubb thinks you will do !

Everyone else - I am still curious how I got surfers to "that site" if "that link" was not posted here, so if anyone mentioned it in a post, please tell me.

Thanks.

So you changed it from (PatentTheA) to http://www.patentthea.com because you thought it would be less spammy. Umm yeah I guess I could see how you thought that |crazy|

Never said people would read it or was worth reading :)
I asked if that was what you wanted.

Anyway you answered what I wanted to know. Have a good day.

Just because our name is on there doesn't mean we support it or actually read their emails :D

Very True
We are more inclined to post a press release from one of our sponsors or at least someone that sends them to us themselves.

As a side-note, I have heard from quite a few programs that they are tired of using broadcast services and having resource sites ignoring them.

As another side-note...what the hell is this thread really about?

Kinda what I'm wondering?

ecchi 2004-05-26 08:40 PM

RE "what the hell is this thread really about" Originally I was thanking you for being the only one to post my "press release", but when you said you had not posted it I used the thread to ask who did mention my site on this board (as for a while I was getting hits from here) and if anyone reading this either mentioned the site in a post or remembers reading it please let me know as I am still curious.

dallasdeb 2004-05-26 08:54 PM

Actually, now that you mention it, I do recall reading a post like that.

Yep, here it is :D

Honestly I did remember seeing this.

And it turned out to be a different post you made here:

Useless 2004-05-26 11:54 PM

That very well may be the shittiest domain name ever. If you had not stated "Patent the A", I would have gone on thinking, "Patentthea, what is that greek?" Plus, you'll have to consider the fact that I refuse to click the link, which is the only way I would have learned otherwise. But then, if I had clicked-thru, I would have been pissed because it would most likely waste more of my time. As if I haven't wasted enough reading this.

Problem solved - now we can all go back to work :D

ecchi 2004-05-27 01:12 PM

Amadman - Thanks and Doh !

Useless Warrior - Thanks also, that was a point I was making to Dubb, but he would not believe it when I said it, as you have been at this board longer than me perhaps he will believe you.

dubb 2004-05-27 01:24 PM

ecchi please don't miss quote me. I never said the post was not here or anything about the original post. I was referring to the post used to open this thred that you use your url several times when you didnt have to. I'm sorry that you couldn't understand a simple statement like that. Maybe next time I will use smaller words or use pictures :) Glad you found what you were looking for. Now this thread can end as pointless as it began.

ecchi 2004-05-27 01:35 PM

Dubb I don't quite understand your last post, my thanks to "Useless Warrior" where because when I said to you that I used the URL instead of the site name because it was less spammy (less liable to encourage clicks) you posted to the effect that I was mad to think that. Useless Warrior backed me up (I think unintentionally) by saying "If you had not stated "Patent the A", I would have gone on thinking, "Patentthea, what is that greek?" Plus, you'll have to consider the fact that I refuse to click the link"

Greenguy 2004-05-27 01:51 PM

dubb - calm down - this is the Chat Chat area - stuff like this post belongs here.

If you don't want to read fluff posts, then stick to the rest of the forums :D

dubb 2004-05-27 01:56 PM

Yeah your right GG...time to move on to the next post before I catch something from this one hehe |waves|
