Console free or not?
Awhile back I believe there was a thread on sponsors using consoles or not. (though thread probably is only on Jim's office hard drive :) )
Anyway, I'd like to read your thoughts on this. Reason being, went to find a couple new sponsors this morning, clicked on a few sites, and spent way too much time closing pop ups, some of them really nasty. btw- caught up on reviews - sorry to fill some of your mail boxes the past couple of days. |
i dont use them because i personally do not like consoles
|
Try to see it from the surfer's point of view, if you find it annoying there are big chances that the surfer also will. I find consoles annoying as hell, but if people use them there must be a reason, I've heard that they do sell, never tried them though.

I tend to stay away from sponsors that pop more then a few consoles.
|
I make sites with and without consoles. All my hubs have consoles |assfuck| lol
|
I think it all depends on who the sponsor is, how many consoles there are, and most importantly who gets paid for the sales made from the consoles.
My biggest sponsor (in terms of the revenue I earn ) is Pussycash - they have the option to either include consoles or turn them off with a simple piece of code, and sometimes I use links with the consoles on , and sometimes with them off , it depends on whether I am sending dating traffic or porn traffic. I would have the consoles on all the time because every exit sale is credited to me, but I don't feel comfortable in exposing a dating surfer to a porn console LOL |
I do a lot of TGP and always use the no console option. NastyDollars for example offers it. The main reason is to be sure I get listed. And honestly, my conversions are great using them so I do anytime I can.
On hubs that only my own surfers and SE traffic are going through, sure I use them but NEVER (if possible, hehe) use a sponsor that pops up a bunch or pops up a conzole on enter. Speaking of that. WTF? Seriously...WTF is the reasoning behind a popup on enter? You're trying to sell the surfer something other than the site he entered to see before he has said he's not even interested? |angry| |
Consoles make money. Thats why sponsors still use them. I consider 1 or 2 exit consoles acceptable. I dislike sponsors that have pop ups or blur consoles (pop under consoles) on the first page of their tour (Its like the surfer is punished with popups before he even decides to exit the site). These days that only serves to drive away about about half the traffic I send, thus leading to poor conversions with those sponsors.

Consoles are like rashes they spread :(

Sorry, should have added this.
I am not against consoles, just the missuse of them. (Jim did I spell that correctly lol) I use them on hubs etc... just bugs the hell out of me when trying to find a sponsor and getting whacked with a bunch of crap. Funny thing is, I had Alt F4 covered before I even clicked. |

would seem to me that a sponsor would only pop a console on the entrance if they were getting more for the cross-sale than a sale on their own site :) they're not in the biz to lose money
|
I go with the no console tour, I will never forgot when a friend mine was showing to me some stuff on the web, and he is a surfer, he didn't know exactly what console was, you should see his face so upset and saying how bad he hate "those things", and told me that he never go back on sites like that. I think one or two can be ok, but if a sponsor have a no console tour I will always opt for that one.

I believe there's a few ways to look at this, and many of the ways include some very large facts, gotta catch a plane in a few but here goes real quick.
Consoles do make money, plenty of it, it's offering an oppratunity to a surfer that may either be a Bookmark surfer that might see something new on a console and join, it's also offering something totally different to a surfer that they might like. I think 2 simple consoles arent going to hurt anyone, I cant stop or close the advertising Billboards on the highway or commercials for Tampons that bust on my screen while im watching TV. It's advertising, the right to advertise and the ability to use that advertising to make money is a great oppratunity to everyone involved, surfer, webmasters, paysites, etc. When done tastefully. |
