secretcorner.com

I see that my sites listed on LOR are posted on this secretcorner.com with exactly the same descriptions.

Of course i ain't submitted anything there so far.

But you know what the funny thing is... I get a huge amount of traffic from that site, actually it's 1st referrer on my stats.

Boh....Any clue?

blind 2004-06-11 10:36 AM

yeah, many people noticed that too. I wonder if it is a real traffic or something else :)

I had that feeling also...

That domain does ring a bell, but it may be me just remembering someone telling me they coppied my links.

If you're getting traffic from them, take it! :)

Hmm me also think that amount of traffic is strange....its my 1st referer also.

Cleo 2004-06-11 08:03 PM

They are also high in my stats.

Whoever it is I'll take their traffic but it is a bit amusing not knowing who or why.

alexshark 2004-06-11 08:15 PM

To me it looks more like a hitbot...

Ate you getting hits by these ips by any chances?

66.119.33.185 - 434 hits
66.119.34.57 - 407 hits
66.119.34.58 - 280 hits
66.119.33.186 - 248 hits

Jel 2004-06-12 03:35 AM

Yeah, I got a lot of traffic from there too, I thought it was another site owned by GG & Jim, obviously that's not the case.
When I submit TGPs to Richard's I get a lot of traffic around a month or so later from other TGPs, same description etc. Maybe I'm wrong about that too?
All I do know is I get traffic to my sites without an extra submit or recip. Sounds like a good deal to me :D

Mishi 2004-06-12 04:34 AM

I'm kinda relieved nobody else seems to know who secretcorner.com is... and kind of intrigued...and kind of scared... they do appear to send nice traffic, though, so... |noclue|

Greenguy 2004-06-12 07:11 AM

Based on what alexshark posted, it's a hitbot - unless you have 434 sites listed with them & that surfer just happened to click on all of them - and his neighbor hit 407 of your sites as well :D

grzepa 2004-06-12 07:38 AM

Hmm so they are faking hits ? I'd like to know what amount of real traffic they send so I'd know if its worth even submitting to them... oh well they'll take my sites anyway ;)

Cleo 2004-06-12 07:43 AM

I looked to see if I could find some of my sites listed on the pages where the hits are coming from. This is hard to do since the URL of listed sites is not on the pages as everything is run through a script. I'm showing a huge amount of traffic coming from their Indian page. Besides that fact that I can't find anything that looks like a site of mine on that page I've only built one or two Indian sites in my entire life.

Fonz 2004-06-12 08:08 AM

I got a lot of hits from them too when I didn't submitted to them. But when I actually did submit to them I got only a few hits from them, very strange :)

I guess they are sending loads of fake hits to sites to get freesites makers excited and submit to them.

I'd try to submit a site without their reciprocal and write on the comments "...so far you did not need one and you had a lot of traffic ... never change a winning team" |jester|

HarryM 2004-06-12 10:33 AM

yeah I get this aswell, it's useless traffic:(

Is it just me or does that ARS cartoon guy look fucking retarded|bananna|

Kezza 2004-06-12 10:38 AM

I dont know who secret corner is... and like a lot of you I have been receiving masses of traffic from them with links that look like they were copied from GG.

I decided to submit to them direct... only seemed fair... and I have received emails to say I was accepted./or rejected.. so I have assumed the sites were reviewed.. and I also received the same traffic... if not better.

I also notice that they have changed their linking codes lately...

I believe there is not a link list out there who started in the last 3 years who didnt use GG/Tommy/Richard to help fill their cats. We all wanted the best!

Its sort of sad how we all think the worst... might be just a nice site with good traffic... and the WM doesnt read this board??? It is possible.

Until recently, I didn't care if someone copied my links, as long as they changed the descriptions & weren't just copying the html from my pages & caling them their own. But lately, I don't really care - I think of it as a benefit to getting listed by me...as well as them leaving my personal sites in there :D

Gotta love it :D

Kezza 2004-06-12 11:28 AM

Take it as a compliment... and reap the benefits for you and your submitters :)

Damn, I feel unique now :D

plateman 2004-06-12 05:46 PM

Well i submitt there and have a link trade there and going by my stats its hard to say - but it took him a good while to get an answer about a trade so if it was fake traffic he would be eager to trade fake for real traffic, you would think.. unless he is really smart about it

but really i think its tgp traffic, next time I chat with him I will try to ask him

nastysurfers 2004-06-13 09:16 AM

They started sending me tons of traffic too out of the blue.

I'm liking the theory that it's a hitbot and they're trying to get webmasters excited about submitting to them.

airdick 2004-06-13 09:44 AM

For the 24 hour period ending 4am EDT June 13 one of my domains had 461 hits with a referer from Secretcorner. Of the 461 hits 460 were from 8 unique IP addresses:

110 66.119.33.185 proxyche01.ia4.marketscore.com
41 66.119.33.186 proxyche02.ia4.marketscore.com
22 66.119.33.187 proxyche03.ia4.marketscore.com
58 66.119.33.188 proxyche04.ia4.marketscore.com
87 66.119.34.57 proxyche01.ia2.marketscore.com
63 66.119.34.58 proxyche02.ia2.marketscore.com
19 66.119.34.59 proxyche03.ia2.marketscore.com
60 66.119.34.60 proxyche04.ia2.marketscore.com

Here is what a Google search says about Marketscore:

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&i...&q=marketscore

Here is what Marketscore says about themselves:

http://www.marketscore.com/e/faq.asp

It doesn't look like any of the hits that came from Secretcorner ever went any further than just requesting my warning pages. The User-agent changes as I would expect if normal surfers are hitting my sites(example: "Mozilla/4.0 (comp
atible; MSIE 5.5; Windows 98)")

I have 43 other hits from addresses matching ^66.119.3 in my log and these appear to represent visits from 15 other tgp/linklists/search engines.

I can think of a few possibilties to explain the Secretcorner hits-

1. Marketscore's caching engine could be periodically refreshing or pre-fetching cache, although if this were the case the User-Agent should be consistent.

2. Secretcorner could be buying or trading for traffic from a source that uses Marketscore's application to proxy a hitbot.

3. Secretcorner could be buying or trading for traffic that is actually generated on the client by Marketscore's application. In browsing around on Google I wasn't able to determine if Marketscore's client-side application actually runs as adware that redirects and generates traffic, or just logs surfing habits to resell as market research.

I want to stress that I don't think any of this is necessarily indicative of any deception on the part of Secretcorner. Maybe I'm naive, but I can't think of any scenario where it would be to a linklist's advantage to purposefully send fake traffic to submitters. Wouldn't the money and effort would be better spent in other areas?

Fonz 2004-06-13 11:38 AM

I tried to submit another site to Secretcorner today but always get this error: "There was an error in one of the fields. Please go back and fix it in order to submit your site"
I filled in every field of the form and don't have any firewalls running. Anyone else gets this?

Richard offers his TGP links to other TGPs in return to links and traffic back to Richard's Realm so it is possible. A code copies the links from RR directly to your own TGP hense the link and exact description.
