Help and Suggestions Please
Good day all
My husband, SpazLabz, visits your board each day and suggested that I might be able to give you a situation and you might be able to give me some advice and/or suggestions to help me resolve it. For about the past couple of months I have been getting around 2k emails a day from a particulr address. I did some research and found the address belonged to University of South Dakota and gave them a call. They had me send them a couple of the message details so they could take a look at them and investigate on their end. The informed me that the email address was spoofed and it was coming from an ip from and ISP called mediacom also located in SD. About 2 1/2 weeks ago I called media com..I was promptly informed to email their abuse dept, which I did along with several message details from the properties of the mail as well. A week goes by...I hear nothing..so I call them again. I was able to talk to a gent this time...I gave him the ip..he said he located the ip in the computer but he could not do anything on his end had me email the information to another address and cc it to 2 others as well. He said it should get resolved in about 24 to 48 hours. As I am sure you have guessed since I am writing this...it has not. Well to continue...on this past Wed I gave mediacom a call..I talked to a lady this time around...told her the situation and she said she would give the ip and the info to her supervisor and they would block the email. 6 hours later..still no change, I call back to get the status and talked to someone else. This time I was informed that they believe the ip is being spoofed as well because they don't see any activity coming from that ips email address, especially in the amount I am getting. Can any of you give me any suggestions that I can use to stop or block the emails. I am now using nortons internet security spam blocker and the outlook express message rules and I must say both are not much good. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks much in advance Dame |
You can do the 30 day trial of this:
http://spamarrest.com/ I haven't used it, but have e-mailed sponsors of the past couple days and noticed several using it. Seems like a great idea. |
Filter them into the trash & forget about it :)

Greenguy,
I do have them going into a specific folder but when you are receiving anywhere from 300 to 1000 at one time, it takes a bit of time to receive them all and they all have a virus attached. |
Contact your ISP or server admin and let them know
about the situtation. It's wasting their bandwidth, disk space, etc. too. (Which equals money.) They can easily block it at the mail server. |
I agree- contact your host and let them know what's going on.
It's disgusting getting all those e-mails with virus attached. |raygun

yes, contact whoever is providing your email service, either your ISP or your webhost. They should have a firewall in place on their servers and banning one domain or IP address would only take a couple of minutes.
Good luck! cheers, Luke |
most IP providers are now offering FREE OF CHARGE spam control and believe me it works very well! Being webmaster for some years now these TGP owners must sell your email and you get blasted with crap......ya like i am going to sign up . fucking duh!
i would contact your ip provider and ask if they have this service. I hope this helps|smooch
Thanks everyone for the great suggestions. I have contacted my tech guy and asked him to see what he can do about banning both the email address and ip...hopefully he will be able to do something.
If not I will contact my isp directly and see if they can do something on their end. Have a great weekend and thanks again |
