Hello guys,
I am sorry to bother you in a Sunday afternoon, but today I surprisingly find out that all my domains are blacklisted for "Trying to hide counter"
After the new counter rule come in the place I started using Tom's Newbie Booster script which is hosted on my server. By default, this script it has a width=1, height=1, but this does not means that i'am trying to hide it or to cheat. Also, before i switch to this script I read on this topic http://www.greenguysboard.com/board/showthread.php?s=&threadid=8617&highlight=new+counter+rule what GG was saying :
I only care about coutners that I can see while surfing, but with the java ones that are working behind the scenes, as long as Norton or Zone Alarm doesn't go off while reviewing, you should be safe
Could you guys let me know if I was so stupid to misunderstand it so bad and what should I do to have my domains unblacklisted ? Thanks a lot in anticipation.

Sadman I looked at your sites as a whole I seen the java code and it slapped a warning on my IE cookie monitor and also there were attempts on other sites to make the counter very small and hidden on the bottom :(

Thanks MrMaryLou for your answer. Regarding the cookie 'thing' I tried on several IE configurations and did not come with anything back on my pc. Anyway, you are the boss, so please advise me what I should do ? Don't use that java's scripts, at all ?
Regarding the sexlist code on other sites, you can check that anytime, that code was inserted long time before your new rule come in the place. Please look for the dates in which those pages were updated, I know you can do it. And if I can cite again from the above topic:


No one that has counters on their sites when we go thru them will be blacklisted - the sites will just be removed.


This is the reason I never look again at those sites. It might be a msitake, but if it was one, according to the above, I would not expect getting blacklisted. Pls tell me if is a chance to fixed it now.

hmm this does bring up the question tho with the axs script (which is one of those java things in the background i thought was okay) it calls
is that gonna get me blacklisted too?

i think even phpadsnew does that if you want to count clicks as well so this is a big question. or is the problem more that the cookie popped up?

I think this is the whole problem - I don't need any advisory or alerts going off & neither do my surfers.

GG: as I mentioned, I tried Tom's configuration in Windows ME IE6 (which I normally used), Wdindows 98, and Windows XP. None of the above come back with anything. I admit thta is a little late now, but pls check this site as an example. Let me know if anything comes back. And also pls let me know what I should do to get my domains unblacklisted.

I didn't get anything on that site, but it may have very well come from another site with a different counter?

Also - just an FYI - stating that the female in your content is an "ugly mature housewife" is probably not the greatest marketing idea.

But seriously, that is the only script that I have in all my sites build after the new rule come in place. Before that, I used sexlist burried at the bottom of the page or paycounter.

Did you remove all of them? Because if MrMaryLou found one of those & the alert went off on his system, that's usually grounds to remove all the sites we find from that webmaster.

No GG, I didn't remove all of them, I had like one hundred sites listed with you (thanks for that) and some of them were two-three years old. I saw what you was saying in that topic: No one that has counters on their sites when we go thru them will be blacklisted - the sites will just be removed. and this is way I didn't tried to go 100%, specially with sexlist sites (the last three domains). Because the counters were there so long, I didn't expect to be banned for that. And, I would not insist so much now, but all my domains are on the blacklist, including the ones that have just one site listed (with Tom's script on them). Please, make my Monday and give me the chance to submit again.

I think I know what happened - when we do our link checks (there's 3 of us that do this) & we find a site that sets off some sort of alarm on our sstem, that site & any other site(s) from that webmaster are removed & blacklisted. I'm 99.44% this is what happened & 99.44% sure that MML didn't investigate to see what was causing the alarm to go off, because we don't really care what caused the problem, we just want to get rid of it.

He probably then took a peek at a few of your other sites while he was removing them & saw the counter loading at 1x1 or whatever & then assumed that was what was setting off the alarm & then put that down as the reason for the blacklistings.

I think it was a fuck up on both our ends :) In any event, I'll get your domains off the blacklist today, but the sites will have to be resubmitted.

Thanks a lot, GG. I'll have a hard time submitting al of them back, but I am really gratefull that I still can do that |bananna|. And if I did not had these feelings before, now I start hating counters.|sad| Just to be on the safe side on the future: can I still use Tom's script ?

See, here's the problem - every 3rd party counter starts out as just that - a counter. But counters in general have gotten very sneaky over the last year or so & since this one of Tom's is a 3rd party counter, while I doubt very heavily that it will go bad, there always is a chance of that happening & to be quite honest, it's a chance I don't really want to endorse.

Down the road, people will say "You let Tom's counter, but not this one?"

So I think I may change my rules to ban ALL 3rd party counters.

Again, nothing against Tom & his counter, but hell, I have friends in the free hosting business & I don't allow them to be listed either.

Fair enough, GG, no counters anymore and back to submissions.|roses|
