Restaurant workers and other service and store types, where you hand them the credit card and they take it out of sight and give it back to you in a few minutes, have a gizmo you can buy off the internet that they swipe the card thru, and it stores the data on the mag strip. Then they transfer the data to a new card blank, and bango, they have a copy of your card to sell.
It used to be that the equipment to do this cost only a couple hundred dollars. I don't know if it's still so easy to buy.
