Ah - yeah - right: how many internet cafes allow you to plug your own computer into their network? Maybe 1 out of 20 (if you're lucky). And when I travel I'm usually not in posh hotels with the latest up-to-date DSL network and internationally compatible plugs, and even at many of the ones which had all that stuff it took me ages to get my network card and stuff set up so that I could use my laptop on their DSL connection (and pay a fortune for the privileg)... Whereas the free email I can check on free internet access in airports and budget internet cafes, and it takes me less than 1/2 time to be in & out as it takes me to get my laptop even connected to some weird network set-up (and I have seen some really weird ones in places like Malaysia or Croatia...)

Ah - yeah - I can probably name some 20-30 TGPs who won't even accept domain based emails anymore (and I'm sure there are hundreds more)!
They think spammers and cheaters register domains by the dozen, and once one is blacklisted move on to the next...
[true + true!]
And as I said: I haven't used an ISP based email since 1997!
It wouldn't help much with submissions either since I'm not a very loyal ISP customer (due to 90% of them here in OZ being unreliable or too expensive, the only good one I ever used [dingoblue] unfortunately went broke), and submit email is about using an established and recognisable name (which I couldn't establish with all my ISP changes - I'm probably at ISP #20-22 right now).
My free email with web.de in Germany is the closest to any reliable and
trustworthy free email service you can get: one only gets an account after one has entered a confirmation code sent to your home address via snail mail (so it's not anonymous at all!), their virus checker and spam filter is top notch, and they even block outgoing mass emailing...
