In that case, as long as you aren't using it to create invisible text, you should be fine.

No linklist that I've heard of has any problems with any regular use of css.

I haven't done tests to see if using linked css instead of global css really helps with serp positioning, but it might. Positioning is often a question of very small advantages when it comes to competitive terms.
