Years ago, there was a company that did this. With the stroke of an electronic keyboard, WebIgnite was virtually wiped from the face of the net.
Now, I think CMGI stepped in and provided a bunch of cash, they went the way of offering SEO submission, and have revamped their methods.
How did they do it? cloaking.
Plain and simple -- WebIgnite maintained top positions and charged $200/month + $x per click for 'targeted traffic'. They don't do this anymore.
Ask the company that spammed you why they don't appear when you search for 'top 10 ranking'.
There is a loophole regarding google and cloaking -- I would suspect they are using that. If I were you, I would spend time reading the SEO forums of this board and asking questions -- and as DD said, don't support spammers.
