I had the massive right arm/wrist pain/numbness thing in a big way a few months ago. Found a mouse called the Gyration Ultra. It's got a gyro-thingie (yes, I believe that is the scientific term for the device) in it that senses the movement of the mouse, so you don't have to make contact with anything. You can sit with your hand on the arm of your chair or in your lap and control the cursor with small wrist movements. It's not precise enough for use with software that requires subtle cursor control--eg. Photoshop, etc.--but for just surfing the web, it allows you to rest your arm naturally. It's been a huge relief for me--when I first started having pain, I looked online for some info about repetitave stress injuries. I discovered that 3 of the top five or ten causes were computer use, guitar playing, and waiting tables (constant lifting of heavy plates). I read this after coming home from my "real" job, waiting tables, and sitting down at the computer with, as always, my guitar in my lap to play with whenever waiting for the computer to do it's thing. Damn.
