...but they lose anyway.
I have no idea why Baker never tried to bring Clement in game 6 or 7. He's clearly a better option than anyone in their bullpen. Tell Clement he only needs to pitch 2-3 innings and I gaurantee he is going to come in there with some excellent relief.
It's just sickening to me as a big Cubs fan that they made it this far, up 3-1 in the series, and then blow it. What happened in game 6 is unexplainable. Fan interference and then the possible double play ball that Gonzalez dropped was the craziest thing I have ever seen in baseball. I'm not superstitious, but seeing that happen back 2 back was enough to make me question if the Cubs would ever win a world series again, let alone make it.
After all that though, I still thought Kerry Wood would be able to make it tough on Florida. Seeing him struggle tonight puts the nail in coffin. They are cursed! That's only the 2nd time all year he has given up 7 runs in a game. Absolutely mind boggling I tell ya.
Oh well, next year the Cubs should be back with their good young pitching, but I'd definitely like to see some changes. Getting some actual patient hitters would be a good thing, and working on their bullpen is a must.
Hopefully 2004 will be their year.
