That makes the assumption that they would just use it to protect themselves, etc. Considering the general tension in the middle east is always present and waiting to explode it might be a good idea to not have it explode in a big mushroom.
Personally I've always believed the U.S. should have stuck to its isolationist policy and not give a crap what the rest of the world does. We would have saved ourselves a lot of grief and ill-will if we just stayed home.
