I just got this site up and running recently and it's off to a great start. I wouldn't let the amount of registered useds deter you or anyone else from feeling free to post auctions or place some bids, at all.
And about the 'the list of message boards they have on their index page list (and likely where they market the site) seems to be a whos who of the best places to find scamming webmasters for an affiliate program' - It's just a list of the main webmaster message boards. I have the button for this board right there on the main page.
