I don't know how google will consider this experiment, may be they split PR by all links on the page and after just don't distribute it by "nofollow" links. In this case it doesn't metter, used "nofollow" or not. In both cases PR distributed to the categories will be the same, but I hope google drop links with "nofollow" before PR calculation and distribution.
should be a good decision for your site Kit, also evaluated this method for my site but found out that it won't benefit the sites of my submitters and ******.com - so I didn't set up a "nofollow".
