matt...what I believe DDave was referring to when he said the complexity of the url makes the difference is: if you use more than two variables, or any session dependent ids or anything that looks like them, Google doesnt want to spider them as it could be generated database pages and they would end up botting billions of extra pages - especially if they let on that we could dynamically generate "pages".
As far as the PR passing through, I can think of many affiliate programs that get loads of backlinks from their affiliates to transfer PR and therefore have PRs on some pages up to 6s that I have seen.
If you review the Google webmaster pages they describe (although you might have to read a little between the lines) exactly what they will crawl and will not.
