Hi Kim,
Initial impresion was very nice. Clearly, a great deal of work went into this and your team really sweated the details.
How many hours overall would you say went into that site?
One suggestion I'd make is to have a couple different style sheets for easy layout changes. Laptops and LCD screens and big monitors are really coming on strong. My webstats show a big spike in very high screen resolutions over the past 6 months.
Even at just 1152x864 the text is a bit tiny. It's well optimized for 800x600, but offering multiple text sizing/color combos would be easy and beneficial IMO.
I read the previous posts and read this:

I think unless one is young and idealistic, the initial thought is where does the money trail go? That's no cheap template site. So, there was a lot of resources human and computer used to make it. Someone is paying to host it, monitor it, operate it..promote it, etc...
Forgive some people for being skeptical but it
is very rare for someone to put that much resource into something without considering ROI.
The fact the site claims to be so altruistic but...
"Your listing in JoyScape is totally free but we would require a reciprocal link to JoyScape from your site."
...has me wondering if this is a very smart long term goal to set up a a site with a lot of links, good PR then one day it redirects to one of the 13 other domains on that IP that does sell something.
I guess...a lot of us are jaded. I am not stating the above is true in any way at all, but that was the first thing that popped into my head.
There is
a lot of intelligence and "man" hours in that site but it's not about money.
Just things that make one think is all.
It's very slick indeed- truly...no sarcasm in that.
Has a PFI scheme been considered?
If you hand check all the sites like DMOZ, what happens if you start to get dozens of submissions per day...or more?
In the rate the site aspect anyone can rate the site, right? So, all the competitiors will say a certain site is bad. The submitter will ask all his friends to rate the site good. :-)
I dunno- a lot of things I don't get. If you were agressively searching for sponsors, launched an AdWords and Overture campaign I'd feel things were more..."kosher".
Talent is there...potential is there- where's the beef?
Good luck though. You're either someone to look out for or...someone to kiss up to with those design skills at hand.
;-)
