Well, there are several possibilities, altho I've applied these so far more for google images than yahoo...
make sure there is some interesting text right next to the picture, and possibly a nice text link, blind or semi blind depending on your preferences. You want to offer something interesting to read and think about as soon as they see the image. People will pause to read text, so I think that's about the most effective approach.
Frame breaker scripts are certainly a possibility, depending on what type of page it is.
