The link dumps are a good place to kick off a blog. The traffic doesn't last for long, but may help you start your trades.
Make sure you get your categories right, and be pinging pingomatic and pinggoat.
Pingomatic will ping technorati for you, and with the correct categories you'll get traffic.
Research what scripts are available for Wordpress. e.g. Top Referrers, Autotagging, and Caching, they will all help build on the trades you get and make the most of them.
