The key giveaway in most of these cases is the clickable link. Most of the big players who have been victims of phishing scams (eBay, Amazon, PayPal, etc.) will no longer send emails with clickable links. Instead, the legitimate emails will simply tell you to log into your account to deal with any alleged problem. Amazon still sends merchandise offers with clickable links, but any type of accounting or customer service issue is now usually free of actual clickable links.

So the basic rule is: if it offers to send you to the site via a clickable link, it's automatically a bogus phishing scam. I hope that ePassporte adopts this rule if it hasn't already.
