If you were on a modem and it took you 30 seconds to download just one image. Would you enjoy that?
It's easy to make good looking images that are 600 pixels on the longest side and 40-50kB (even 30kB if it's a "good" background") in size. There's no need for images to be 90kB in size.
Why I reject more than others might be that in my admin I have your smallest pic size and largest pic size, so I don't need to check your images by hand. If I see that most of your pics are close to 80kB, I reject it.
