Maxtor has some "onetouch" external back up drives that are excellent for their simplicity, both in usb 2.0 and firewire models, including a terrabyte solution in their onetouch 3 turbo version that supports raid

Their personal versions may be all you need with capacities up to 250 gig, or the more robust series 2 or 3
