wordpress and blogging in general is still in the hippy dippy happy "we are all friends" stage, but they are starting to realize that people are fucking them over bigtime. Splogs and hijacked PR are really starting to get to some people. I would not be surprised to see some sort of link check feature come in future editions, as the bloggers become more and more cynical and jaded.
