Due to that thread I use only text recips w/two outbound links each. And as one step further, I only use 2 lines of text for each LL with each line being a link. One for the root and one for the cat. I've heard no complaints.
I don't even use 'all caps' text as some LL's want, because I feel it gives them an unfair visual advantage over the other LL's IMHO. So far, no bitchin'! They could turn on me like a pack of cross dogs tomorrow, but as of today all is OK.

IMO fulfilling the surfers needs/wants comes way before the LL owners needs/wants. The surfer has the CC, the LL owner has the traffic, the webmaster has the product. Hand in hand in hand.
I tried and tried on yesterday's submit to fit MrYum's recip into the table. He states very clearly in his rules to keep things 'intact' which would create a 3 line recip. So I had to skip over MrYum. (Are ya' listenin'? I thought about PMing but it's plain as day in your rules dude!)
Sorry japamor, didn't mean to take off on a tangent like that. My one sentence post tuned in to a novel.
Short story: I'd say let common sense be your guide.
