I was fortunate years ago that a host I'd stopped using did have a way to *update* my credit card info. They thought of it as a way to get my new information when my card expired some day. But I used it to enter all erroneous information instead. They tried to bill me again after I canceled, and even contacted me to tell me the charge did not go through.

Idiots.

Maybe your old host has a link/screen where you can 'update' your billing information too?
