It doesn't look good but we can hope that they hear from it on the next attempt. Yeah finding any form of life would sure knock the wind out of all the self righteous bible thumpers. I'm sure we will, will be interesting to see if it has DNA like us.
I would really like to see us make a permanent base on the moon. Using radio telescopes on the dark side of the moon we could do some awesome research being free of the radio pollution from the earth. Plus it just seems a whole lot more exciting then just keeping a few people in a tin can orbiting the earth. Our space program lacks excitement, you need a destination for the maned rockets, not just flying them around in circles overhead. Its like getting a new car and then never going anyplace in it.
Hopefully there will be more funding for the space program. The technology that comes out of it fuels our progress in the world. Three old space shuttles designed in the seventies just isn't cutting it.
