If you want to stop illegal immigration go after the employers who are hiring them, make it hurt *really* bad financially. But be prepared to pay more for a lot of products and services that are currently provided by undocumented people working for peanuts. You can't have it both ways.
I guess we don't need a 'fence' from the pacific to the atlantic across our northern border cuz no self respecting canadian would sneak across to work in the us then run back over and live in Canada?? Or would attend a tradeshow where business is transacted without having a b2 visa that allows them to 'work' while in the US?? Which makes it truly against "mexicans" eh?

I remember another 'fence" that was built once .. finally came down in 1989. of course that was in Berlin and it was to stop all the eastern euros from flooding into Berlin and thus western freedom. But that's another discourse indeed.

in my opinion, perhaps the INS, now part of 'homeland' security.. should increase the number of worker bees in their clerical department so those visas can be processed quicker. Waiting 10, 11, 12+ years for one, as one of my kids had to do, should be criminal. The rest of them i brought, personally, illegally into this country and would do it again if i had to.

Not sure I understand you here Alex. Illegals can't vote. Even legal ones like my wife. Only citizens can vote, my wife is a perminate resident which means she only has the rights of a US citizen but still can't vote. Greencard holders are not citizens, it's only a card for work purposes but not voting unless that has changed
.

Never in my life, as i've moved to at least 5 states since becoming 18, have i ever been asked to prove i was a US citizen when registering to vote. When i moved back to vegas in 2004, just outside my local grocery they had a voter registration booth.. not only did i register with no proof, so did my son's dad, who has been a greencard holder since 1988.

My final opinion, cuz you know i have one:

Just because the statue of liberty stands in NY harbor doesn't mean the words carved at her feet do not apply to Juarez, Victoria, Key West or Niagara Falls.

Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,

With conquering limbs astride from land to land;

Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand

A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame

Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name

Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand

Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command

The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.

"Keep ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she

With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,

Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,

The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.

Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,

I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"
