I kind of understand what you mean with the themes etc. Part of me thinks that the content is more important for some reason and if you have nice content, the right niche for the blog etc. it shouldnt really matter about the theme etc? I spent a few hours a while ago browsing all the themes, and because they all have their fancy 'artsy' headers and stuff, I didnt really think they would fit into an adult style blog, but I see that you just make your own header and slot it into the theme ;-)
So I suppose you just have to read the documentation about the theme and the header and work from there yeh?

As for as I know I haven't been banned anywhere. My RSS feed blogs don't get as much technorati traffic as my hand made blogs but I assume that's because I pretty much let the RSS feed blogs run on auto=pilot and don't go in and edit them to make sure they get categorized and don't add tags to them.
As far as getting banned, I think you have to be pretty spammy and the aggregators feel they are being spamed to get banned. Anytime I've heard of anyone getting banned, looking at their site has always explained it to me and I would have rejected the blog if it would have been submitted to one of my directories.
The content is more important but if you have multiple blogs you want to make sure they do look different. Some themes are documented, most arent. You just have to dig around in the code long enough to figure it out. It isn't too hard usually.
