On the second one, change:
.left-links { width: 105px; background-color: #7E3517; text-align: left; padding: 1px 1px 1px 2px; }
to:
.left-links { line-height: .9; width: 105px; background-color: #7E3517; text-align: left; padding: 1px 1px 1px 2px; }
Note that all I did was add line-height: .9;
