Photoshop has the "Save for Web" with all the options you could want.
Seems kinda of a waste to use the root for free sites, your so limited and you cant change them much later, you run the risk of getting dropped or banned. Do the free sites in sub-folders as mentioned and use the root for a traffic building hub.
