Also curious, how would you know you did'nt lose a hit if it was lost in the first place? I don't think any one can say they never ever lose a hit, puters and scripts are not 100% perfect, nor is the net...

Its not a pitch although it could be construed as one. The fact is I have worked for 3 different sponsor programs, one counted only second page hits and I told the powers that be that effectively made the stats worthless IMO, and the other two counted first page uniques.
It doesn't serve any purpose at all in my view to try and fudge the numbers you show to affiliates, the one thing they will definitely see for certain is how much money they make regardless. Showing them accurate hits allows them to adjust and helps us to fine tune. To me it sounds like obviously a good business practice.
as far as the no one can say they never lose a hit... you're right, but I think the implication of the thread was that perhaps the sponsors in question were doing this intentionally. But I may have misunderstood that.
