I use a combination of CSS and tables on almost everything. In the not-so-grand scheme of things, free site pages are small, insignificant bits of code anyway, so the page load time difference between tables and pure CSS is so minute, it wouldn't be noticeable. On content packed, code heavy pages, CSS could definately provide a more quickly loaded page. And as Jayeff stated, the true benefit [for any page] would be the code:SE content ratio.
