I like for the submitted thumb to reflect the niche/category of the gallery. Hopefully that is also reflective of the sponsor being promoted. It just makes sense that you'd want catch the attention of the surfer that likes that type of content. It should mean better click-thru ratios.

As for softcore vs hardcore, again make it match the gallery and sponsor as much as the TGP's rules will allow. You can usually get creative with the cropping to suggest hardcore without actually showing it.

One thing I am a stickler about when reviewing for my own TGP's, is that the thumb must be taken from the content shown in the gallery. This is usually only an issue on movie galleries. Whether it's stills taken at the time of the video, or captures from the videos themselves, each thumb should match up with the content in the linked clip.
