On an older, well established site, a long delay would be unusual. On younger sites, long delays and a lack of communication are not that rare. If a link list, for example, is powerful enough for the owner to produce a living from it, then it will most likely be updated within a couple of days and those owners, though busier than most, are pretty good about replying to messages from submitters.

Newer lists tend not to be updated as often for multiple reasons. When you have a lot of pokers in the fire, it's very difficult to justify spending too much time on a site that's not earning enough to pay for your time. That doesn't mean that you abandon it completely - but it does tend to fall lower and lower on your list of priorities.

Keep in mind, a lot of us work from home because were semi-antisocial. That tends to affect the way in which we communicate a wee bit.
