it's really a 'different world' .. we lived in Atlanta for 3 yrs and the 1st year my husband was still stationed in Jax..we used to meet up and down the highways either in Savannah or Tifton (off I-75) and i cannot tell you how many times we were pulled over by police, state troopers etc..several times our car was searched and once we were both 'detained' for 5 hours in Statesboro.. only because i shot my mouth off to the officer who pulled me over.. i bright daylight that my "tag" lights were out and he couldn't see from a distance my plate clearly.. so i said.. maybe a trip to Lenscrafters is in your future..
all because i'm beige and my husband is brown.. uh HELLO..
but then again this is the state that still proudly wears the "confederate" flag on it's New flag, considers being "southern" a "heritage".. and still refuse to admit they "lost" 128 yrs ago.. uh DUH...
Jay, you are very very strong for being able to withstand that and carry on. nothing is scarier than being alone...the part of your story about how the inmates blamed you for the fire is just sooo fucking typical. But glad some at least had a conscience.
I doubt there is one person who is perfect.. and i don't think i could have handled that situation with the same patience that you did..to be able to draw on your inner strenght...
As far as what got you there in the 1st place.. we all find various forms of recreation.. and to one it could be drowning their sorrows/fears etc in a bottle or stuffing their face full .. or extending their credit to look like the national debt of some 3rd world nations. We are very backwards when it comes to the concept of "personal freedom"..
KUDOS that you are able to put it behind you and get back to work...
