Crazy crazy day in football, my picks were fucked, I'd probably done better had I just closed my eyes while I made them. At least the Colts got another win to put them in the lead for the wild card.
Saturday my wife got a letter in the mail telling her that she has qualified for the Trade Adjustment Assistance Act. Which means that because her old job moved a bunch of jobs to Mexico to pay them 1.25/hour she qualifies for a bunch of benefits she had no idea about. Basically she gets 104 weeks of totally paid for job training/schooling, and while she is enrolled in some kind of job training, she gets something like 80-90% of her normal wages she got while working at her old job for those 104 weeks. She's been talking about going back to school to be a LPN (licensed practical nurse) for a while, but with work and the kids going to school would have been almost impossible. This is quite an unexpected opportunity for her, since basically she is gonna get paid to go to school for 2 years. One of my buddies I play ball with was in this same program 3-4 years ago after the factory he worked at moved all their jobs to Mexico. He got his associates in heating and cooling and is now a maitanace man for a huge apartment complex.
I guess they put this program in place when they went with the North American Free Trade Agreement, since they knew a ton of good paying American labor jobs would go to Mexico for 1.25/hour.
