Watch out for this new spoof email trap
Here's a new one, that felt like it might be targeted at me thru some adult webmaster email list.
I get an email with an 18k attachment, the email is simple text and the apparent sender is "administration(at)nameofmyisp.com". The email says that virus emails have been detected coming from my account, and it is recommended I take advantage of their anti-vurus service by clicking on the attachment.
Of course, only an idiot would click on an attachment.
I reply to the "administration" address, mail bounces. So obviously this is a spoof, real email wouldn't bounce. And, my ISP was sold to Earthlink, real emails from them come from Earthlink, not from the ISPs name.
At 18k, the attachment is too small for any known virus. What I suspect it is, is a backdoor installer. I don't know this for sure, but it has all the signs.
So if you get any emails from your ISPs with attachments, beware.
Of course, anyone who doesn't beware attachments is already an idiot.
