Most TGP's use a trade script that keeps track of incoming traffic, ranks a referrer toplist accordingly, and returns traffic to trades based on the quantity and quality of their incoming traffic.

It's difficult to trade traffic when you don't have much to traffic to trade. You have to remedy that problem first before you'll get much back from trades. Links from friends with sites or other sites you have is a start. Buying traffic is another option, but quality and cost can be an issue there.

Every little bit helps, and over time it all adds up. Getting those scripts functional (TGP and traffic trade) is going to make your work pay off faster.

One more small bit of advice. Focus on building traffic. Making money should be secondary at this point. Once you have enough incoming traffic to send back to trade partners, then work more on monetizing that traffic. In the long run you'll make more money.

Hard work and patience.
