for stats you should be using google analytics. only bad thing is they don't have an API service yet to automate anything. but for example. you can go into your google analytics account and get a txt file dump of your most viewed model category pages for the previous month. it's manual, but hey that's only 12 times a year you'd have to do that.

if you're looking for something more granular like every day or weekly, i wouldn't know what to suggest. i would probably write a simple php script that updated a counter per model and then have something that uniques it for the day and then you could update daily or weekly.
