Just for practice, you can put a blog in a subdirectory of your website to get the hang of installing and running one. Better yet, just ask your host to set up a subdomain for you (like blog.blunkies.com) and set up a trial and error blog there. Wordpress is simple to install, but you need a database (you probably can create a database in your control panel).
