You might have a better 3rd party sound recording software that came as an extra with your computer, but most likely not
The default recorder in windows is the sound recorder in your start menu accesories folder, but that only records as a wav file which though is decent quality is quite large
A good free open source recorder is Audacity which can be downloaded from sourceforge (the home of open source projects and a wonderful site)
