It was doing this with an older version. I updated to see if the version was the problem. Also tried different themes to see if it was a theme/version conflict. Apparently it's not.
Uploading the theme in the default directory sounds like a neat idea. Definitely something to try.
No I haven't tried repairing the database, tho I was certainly thinking it might be a db problem. What would be the wise way to go about repairing the database?
I'll be googling that today.

I wouldn't know the best way but I install
wp-dbmanager on all my blogs. You can schedule backups and optimizations on your database. It also does db repairs.
Since I haven't had any db problems in a really long time... either it's working or it at least isnt hurting.
