Welcome to the forum. Following greenguys rules puts you at the lowest common denominator. This means basically every directory should accept your submits if you follow those rules.
Some places are more flexible, but I think it's more a matter of volume than creativity when it comes to submitting to directories. So stick to those rules and you'll be fine.
Just start submitting and getting a feel for it. Take notes along the way, particularly sites that reject your submits. Some site owners just don't like certain sponsors. Sometimes it's because of the wording in your description, other times it's because they don't like their recips paired up with certain other sites.
Most of the site owners are members here and are willing to help if you are sincerely trying. Particularly if you are consistently getting rejected or banned, they will tell you why and give you another chance. Like any business, it's about building relationships with "partners".
You can also go it alone if you are really creative and original. If you're successful, people will look to partner with you.
Don't hesitate to ask lots of questions. Sometimes you'll ask a question that I hadn't thought of and I'll learn something new. However, you can answer most of your own questions by just doing it.
The key is to just start doing something. Build on your successes and learn from your mistakes.
