honestly, most people don't mind the free linking to them, with traffic...so i've not seen it be a problem unless someone bypassed the entrance and went for the guts of a site..
i know there was an article out by earthlink a while back redcherry, that said that they never expect even half of thier people to get on high speed connections becasue of the price difference, until that comes down...i never fully trust anything google..but my server stats tell me i still have(as of yesterday) over 68% on dial ups urls coming into my sites...while i've only done about 250,000 surfers so far this month, it's still big enough for me to see the slow speed connection is still alive and widely used...after all...a whole lot of the USA still can't get high speed...everything that's rural and many smaller towns...as well as selected areas.....me i still use a Sat. connection...no other high speed in my area....
what i do see is more work place porn surfing, webmaster usage, and university surfing being the bulk of the high speed accessors...once you take those people out, you get like 10% maybe from home users that are high speed...5-10 years down the road i think it'll change to mostly high speed...
of course i also get a few sad surfers still on win3.1 and macs! but far more(over 90%) are on windoze...
anyway i build for whats out there being used on my domains now...which is still slower machines and connections...and i don't do movies or tubes...so that too may have something to do with all the dial up surfers..
