Saying that about Link Lists wouldn't be accurate either. With a little bit of research I'm sure you'll find good sites with traffic.
When a newbie has no start up $$ and needs traffic. The 1st thing that comes to mind is "Free sites and "Link Lists"
You'd be surprised about freesites and what they can do to a domain.
Increase traffic
Increase Alexa ranking or page rank
Links to you niche sites on the index or main pages
