Tell me what he says to do and I will tell you wether I think it makes any sense. Why would I do that for you? Because the risk to me is relatively small, while I gain reputation points amongst my peers for doing so.
The first thing I would do on your page is replace those banners with text links, and move the text links up next to the battle area. The text links fulfill your legal requirements, the page loads faster, and by movingthem into the "important zone" you triple your chances of a click.
Clicks however do not mean sales - you need to "tune the sell", which means finding the few sponsors out of many that your traffic will buy, and finding the right way to present those sponsors to your traffic so your traffic is inclined to buy when they click off of your page. finding the right sponsors, especially these days, is the hardest part of the webmasters job - hard, expensive, time consuming, because the only way to do it is make your best guess, then test the guess, and see if anyone buys.
Your header area is the second thing I would change - it looks like there is supposed to be a lot of attention focused there, but, it also looks cluttered and "slow" - and there is no monetization there.
