I compare free porn to free water. Water out of your tap is so cheap that it's basically free but people still buy bottled water. But when money is shit, like it is these days, people will forgo the bottled water and go for the free tap water.
On a personal note we still do get bottled water delivered, water here is really nasty, but have cut way back. I used to always order ice tea or bottled water when eating out now we just get a free glass of water. Friends that own restaurants are seeing this a lot including getting stuffed on free bread and more sharing of meals and forgoing desserts.
Just like buying designer clothes for no reason other than it has a label people will pay for porn memberships when money is good. But right now everyone is hurting so free water and free porn is good enough.
