The end of Christmas today!
First of all I got to take down the decorations this evening. (I know, that is the third time I've said that, but I'm working on the theory that if I keep posting it I'll eventually embarrass myself into actually doing the job!)
Then, for my evening meal I got the last of the Christmas meat (a turkey is for life, not just for Christmas).
I spent Christmas with my sister, and her husband is a serious carnivore (his meals would just be meat and potatoes/rice/pasta if he lived alone, but my sister forces him to eat green things too). For Christmas he goes overboard. I think he must drive round all the farms in the counties close to London yelling "Slaughter everything and hang it in my basement." So over Christmas we eat turkey, ham, beef, game pie, smoked salmon, trout, pickled herring, sausages, bacon, etc.... etc.... etc.... (Ironically my sister won't touch the meat or fish - she is a vegetarian.)
And when you go home he gives you a carrier bag full of left over meat and pie. I have literally been eating it every day, both lunch and dinner, since Christmas. But tonight I just have one last, big thick piece of ham to polish off, then I'm done. I'll have it cold with potato salad, bean and rice salad and some of the chutney my father gave me for Christmas. Then Christmas will be over for anther year.
Time to go out and buy those bloody Easter eggs......
