I went over to my friend's house to enable WEP on her Wi-Fi that I set up for her a few days ago, she is all Windows.

Went into the Linksys router and turned on WEP. I see that PCs don't use a plain text password like Macs can and that I have to generate a HEX number. OK no problem, bit harder to remember then a password like givemewifi but not a big deal.

Enter the HEX number into my Mac in the dialog that comes up when I go to connect and I'm online. Go to Luna's Mac and do the same thing and she is online.

Go to Angel's XP machine and after digging around for a bit I find where to get properties and bring up a window that asks a lot of information that I then have to go digging around in the router's admin to find out and then enter it all into the XP machine. It connects right away but can't surf. The internet setup wizard keeps on coming up so I use it to setup the WiFi again. It wipes out all the settings that I just put in so I enter them all again. Now it sees that router but is no DNS when surfing the internet and the setup wizard keeps on popping up when I open IE.

Over an hour later of going through setups, wizards, and trial and error just about everything that I can think of like manually enter all the DNS and gateway info I give up and turn off WEP on her WiFi.

This sums up why I use a Mac.
