My registrar just implemented the following:
The new system introduces a manual step in the whois contact process:
(1) Visitor performs a whois query on your domain, and is directed to
the protection website
www.emailaddressprotection.com.
(2) Visitor goes to the protection website, and fills out a simple
contact form.
(3) BuyDomains.com then forwards this message to the appropriate
contact in our database.
This new system introduces a web component to the protection process, making it extremely difficult for spammers to exploit the whois server for contact information.
